AOL CD Saga

Overview of the Collection Over the years I've received many, many AOL and other ISP CDs offering everything under the sun to get you to pay them money. Since it seemed wasteful simply to throw their efforts away, I saved them. Regardless of AOL's sometimes dubious reputation, they put a face to the Internet revolution during the second half of the 90s. Surprisingly, AOL Version 1.1 still installs and runs on Windows XP, more than 10 years since it came out. I would estimate at least 100 million people have received an AOL CD sometime over the last 10 years, and to the Internet generation they are as recognizable as an old glass Coke bottle was in the past.

Below are the most interesting of the collection, including ISPs other than AOL. Some of the CDs may rival old album's cover art, others just worth a glance. Hover over the picture to see the version, and caption; click to enlarge.
