Microsoft Comfort Optical Mouse 3000 Review
I've needed a new mouse as my five dollar generic optical one had decided that it wanted to click twice, when you wanted it to click once. I wanted to
buy a nice mouse, not wireless (I like light mice), and optical. For about $30 I got the Microsoft Comfort Optical Mouse 3000, or as I like to call it
the "MCOM 3000" which sounds decidedly more manly. Below are the specs :
Four way scrolling
4 Programmable buttons, including magnifier
Comfortable design for either left or right handed use
1000 dpi, 6000 FPS, 85 MOPS, .18 Microns or smaller
Design
First, the design is good, with a molded top without separated left and right buttons like Apple's Mighty Mouse. It is one of the most comfortable ambidextrous
mice I've used, however, not as comfortable as higher end right-hand only models. The scroll wheel is large and textured, but it does not have the graduated resistance that
most mice have. Instead, when you move the scroll wheel it slides smoothly, albeit with some resistance. Finally, the magnification button on the left hand side is easy to
reach, but does not get accidentally pressed.
Use
The Microsoft Comfort Optical Mouse is a lighter mouse, thus easy and nimble movement on almost any surface is possible. Tracking is excellent, I haven't noticed any "ghost drifting" of the
cursor when the mouse is sitting still and I've been able to use the mouse on any surface except glass or other reflective materials. The magnification feature is particularly
helpful when working with any picture editing software, or if your eyes just need a little help. My one complaint is that horizontal scrolling and pressing the scroll wheel down are
a little difficult, although I would rather have that than accidentally scrolling or clicking when I didn't want to.
Conclusion of the Microsoft Comfort Optical Mouse 3000 Review
Overall the mouse is excellent and for $30 is a good price. For the price/performance, this mouse is good for gaming, editing pictures, and general use.
However, it's still a wired mouse, but until wireless mice are lighter/more reliable (in this price bracket) I'm sticking with the Comfort Mouse 3000.
