More Info

The following is based upon a translated and rephrased version of the German Wikipedia entry for Socket PAC418, and my own information.

Intel Socket PAC418, introduced in 2001, was used for the original 64-bit Intel Itanium processors running at up to 800 MHz. It was superseded by Socket PAC611, however, PAC611 uses the same P7 bus, and voltage (1.5 Volts) as PAC418. The only bus speed is 133 MHz; 266 MHz double pumped. It has 418 contacts plus additional contacts to power the CPU.

During development a slot known as "Slot 3" or "Slot M" (M for Merced, the codename of the first Itanium) was considered, however, socket PAC418 was chosen instead.

The following chipsets are known to support PAC611: Intel 460GX.
