More Info

Slot B was/is used by DEC Alpha for its line of 21264x/EV6x CPUs. Slot B's were manufactured with the CPU, VRM, and cache on the board.

Known Slot B CPUs are as follows: 600MHz with 2MB cache, 667MHz 2MB, 667MHz 4MB, 750MHz 4MB, 750MHz 8MB and 833MHz 4MB. One known Slot B system is the UP1000 which uses API's (formerly Alpha Processor Inc.) Slot B, and can uses either a 600MHz CPU with 2MB cache or a 700MHz with 4MB cache. Another are the UP2000 and UP2000+ systems, which use the full line of CPUs.

At one time, during the second half of 1999 AMD was rumored to use Slot B for it's line of "sledgehammer" CPUs ("sledgehammer" was the first core for the AMD Opteron 64-bit CPU), however, AMD chose to use Socket 940 instead.
